So you have something or SOMEONE on your mind that’s making your life miserable. Yes, you could get out the candles and call in the quarters, wait for the right sign of the moon, inscribe banishing pentagrams, etc.
Or you could go the practical route.
Here’s what you do:
Every time you use a drain or are near a flowing body of water, mentally picture the irritating thought going into the water and flowing away from you. Make a game of it. See how many drains and moving bodies of water you can find. Do it when you drive over a bridge on your way to work, or when you peel potatoes and run the garbage disposal, or….ESPECIALLY…when you flush the toilet.
Then, most importantly…believe that it’s working. If you find yourself worrying about the offending person or problem, remind yourself that you’re working on this ritual and that’s the only time you’re allowed to think about it.
Sound simple? You bet. In Freya’s world there is no division between real life and magick. It all flows together. Sometimes there are times for a high ceremony, but most of the time it’s about doing what you need to do practically. And if any of you are from the Scandinavian or German families who came to the United States to farm, you KNOW how practicality comes first. Freya is no different. Somewhere along the line she got put on a pedestal when she’d really rather be here with us regular folks, working side by side with us to make the world a better place to be in.
What makes it work? I can’t give you the final answer, but part of it has to do with actually paying attention to what’s bothering you, and acting out the letting go process seems to go a long way in relieving it. And then there is that something else…the magick…where, not only do you stop caring about it, but sometimes something good comes to you from it in a tangible way.
Just remember to pay attention. You’ll be surprised at how many times you run water without thinking and miss an opportunity to wash your troubles away.
What a wonderful idea. I use our garbage disposal almost daily and never thought to do this.
Speaking of “simple magic” this weekend my 7-year-old got a lesson in stirring a wish into food you are preparing.

Thank you, Mama Kelly.
I can’t tell you how many times just this evening I ran water while making tonight’s meal and didn’t think about it. Takes practice. But when I did remember I had a tremendous sense of having made good use of my time, even if it was merely for a few seconds.
Stirring a wish into food is awesome! Then do you forget about the wish and let it “digest”?
